DirectionsCarisoprodol comes as a tablet (350 mg.). Carisoprodol may be taken with food or immediately after meals to prevent stomach upset. Take carisoprodol exactly as directed by your doctor.The usual adult dosage of carisoprodol is one 350 mg tablet, three times daily and at bedtime. Usage in patients under age 12 is not recommended. If you miss a dose of carisoprodol, take it as soon as remembered if it is within an hour or so. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
PrecautionsCarisoprodol is metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidney; to avoid its excess accumulation, caution should be exercised in administration to individuals with compromised liver or kidney function.Safe usage of carisoprodol in pregnancy or lactation has not been established. Therefore, use of carisoprodol in pregnancy, in nursing mothers, or in women of childbearing potential requires that the potential benefits of carisoprodol be weighed against the potential hazards of the mother and child. Before taking carisoprodol, tell your doctor if you are allergic to carisoprodol, meprobamate or any other drugs. Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially medications for allergies, coughs, or colds, muscle relaxants, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and vitamins. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking carisoprodol, call your doctor. You should know that carisoprodol may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how carisoprodol affects you. remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by carisoprodol
Possible side effectsAlthough side effects from carisoprodol are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away; drowsiness, dizziness, clumsiness, headache, fast heart rate, upset stomach, vomiting or skin rash.If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately; difficulty breathing, fever, weakness, burning in the eyes.
OverdoseIn case of overdose, call your local poison control center. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services.
Additional informationKeep carisoprodol in a tightly closed container and out of reach of children. Store carisoprodol at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
