Amoxicillin is indicated in the treatment of infections due to susceptible (b-lactamase-negative) strains of the designated microorganisms in infections of the ear, nose and throat. Hypersensitivity reactions to amoxicillin include serum sickness like reactions, erythematous maculopapular rashes, erythema multi-forme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, hypersensitivity vasculitis and urticaria.
These hypersensitivity reactions to amoxicillin may be controlled with antihistamines and, if necessary, systemic corticosteroids.
