Gelocatil with Codeine, a strong narcotic pain reliever, is prescribed for the relief of pain such as tension headache caused by stress and muscle contraction in the head, neck, and shoulder area. Gelocatil codeine combines a cough suppressant (codeine) and a non-narcotic pain and fever reliever (paracetamol).Codeine phosphate, obtained from opium or prepared from morphine by methylation, is a centrally acting analgesic used for the relief of mild to moderately severe pain. Doses of Gelocatil codeine used to relief pain vary between one to two tablets every four to six hours, not to exceed six tablets in any 24 hours.
Common side effects of Gelocatil codeine include abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, itching, or confusion. Tolerance of or dependence on codeine may develop with regular use.
